The Toyota Highlander was first introduced at the turn of the century, as a member of the 2001 model year. The midsize crossover has now been around for more than two decades and continues to expand and build upon its legacy, as it has been a popular member of its segment ever since its initial debut. One sure reason for that success has to be the fact that it is also available with a hybrid powertrain! The Highlander Hybrid joined the family in 2005 during the crossover’s first-generation and we’re stoked that it’s still a strong member of the lineup here in Lima OH in 2021.
Last year, for the 2020 model year, the Highlander and Highlander Hybrid were completely redesigned as the iconic crossover entered its fourth generation. This year, the new generation carries over to continue building itself up. The stylish new Highlander looks sportier and more sophisticated than ever, with its unique angles and lines that create a truly impressive aesthetic.
One thing that is excitingly changed for the 2021 model year is that the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package is standard across the board in the Highlander Hybrid! Additionally, the LED headlamps on LE and XLE trim levels have been enhanced for the new model year. We’re thrilled that even after the total redesign, Toyota continues to enhance the value of the Highlander line.
Powered by the combination of a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, the Highlander Hybrid is capable of generating a total net power output of 243 horsepower alongside 175 pound-feet of torque. This enables the Highlander Hybrid to achieve a combined fuel economy rating of 35 miles per gallon regardless of trim level, of which there are four: LE, XLE, Limited and Platinum, when equipped with the all-wheel drive system – or 36 mpg with front-wheel drive.
