All good things come to an end, and the Toyota Avalon is inching close to its final model year version. A sedan that managed to capture the attention of the entire industry when the sedan segment was at its peak, the Avalon was in the forefront of the segment. Even with the sudden renaissance of the SUV segment, the Avalon still managed to deliver tough competition making it one of the most sought after vehicles in the American car market. However, keeping in line with the market trend, Toyota announced the 2022 model year version of the Avalon to be the last.
The 2022 Avalon is available in six trims, namely XLE, XLE Hybrid, XSE Hybrid Nightshade, Touring, Limited, and Limited Hybrid. These are the updates for the 2022 Avalon – discontinuation of the previously optional all-wheel drive system, discontinuation of the TRD model, XSE Hybrid trim now available only along with the Nightshade appearance package, addition of new rear-seat reminder feature to all the trims, and updates driver-assistance features with more advanced camera- and radar-based avoidance systems. The Toyota Avalon is powered by a standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and the power is sent to the front wheels through the front-wheel-drive system. And if someone is looking for an environment-friendly alternative, a hybrid 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with two electric motors that produce 215 combined horsepower is also available. This engine is mated to an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT).
As far as the interiors and the features are concerned, the Avalon lives up to its siblings with a wide array of features and configurations on offer. The base Avalon has SofTex-trimmed seats with heated front seats while the top-end trims are upgraded with premium leather-upholstered seats with heated and ventilated front seats. The cabin is spacious and offers sufficient headroom, shoulder room, and legroom for occupants in both rows. The 2022 Avalon is equipped with a nine-inch touchscreen display and sports features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, an eight-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, SiriusXM® with 3-month Platinum Plan trial subscription, four USB charge ports, and Wi-Fi Connect, to name some of them. Moving the higher-end trims will fetch you upgraded features like a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system and Destination Assist system.
Safety is a top priority, and the 2022 Avalon is loaded with safety features across all the trims. Features such as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (RCTB), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), are just some of the various features offered in the 2022 Avalon.
